Evidence of company contributions to consumers?

TERIC Power Ltd. Consumer Contributions: Evidence from the Alberta Grid

Overview

Reviewing the Dispatcho.app public assets data alongside TERIC Power's documented projects reveals direct evidence of TERIC's operational contributions to Alberta electricity consumers through grid-connected battery energy storage systems.

Confirmed Assets on Alberta Grid

The Dispatcho page shows the following Energy Storage assets registered with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), several of which were developed by or with TERIC Power:

The eReserve projects (ERV1, ERV2, ERV3) were originated by TERIC Power and constructed using Tesla Megapack batteries. TERIC designed and managed these projects on behalf of Enfinite (formerly WCSB Power), making them Alberta's first large-scale commercially operational battery storage facilities.enfinite+1

Consumer Benefits Delivered

1. Grid Frequency Regulation and Stability

TERIC's battery storage systems provide grid frequency regulation services that help maintain the 60 Hz frequency essential for grid stability. This prevents equipment damage and blackouts, directly protecting Alberta electricity consumers. The eReserve projects discharge into the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES) and charge from the grid, providing energy balancing services that support Alberta's transition to sustainable energy.iconicpowersystems+2

2. Peak Power Price Reduction

TERIC's projects charge during periods of low electricity prices and low carbon intensity, then discharge during periods of high demand. This reduces peak power prices for all Alberta consumers by increasing supply when prices spike. The Fluiditi Battery Storage Project specifically aims to "reduce peak power prices and provide grid reliability services".tericpower+1

3. Renewable Energy Integration

The Raymond eBAR Project (15.4 MW), developed with Irrican Power, stores excess hydroelectric energy from the Raymond Reservoir Hydro Plant and releases it when needed. This allows the hydro plant's output to be "time-shifted" for maximum value, supporting year-round grid reliability even though the hydro plant only operates during irrigation season. This project is visible in Dispatcho under the Raymond Reservoir (RYMD) hydro asset, which now has co-located battery storage capability.tericpower+1youtube

4. Emergency Grid Support

Alberta has experienced 26 Energy Emergency Alerts since 2020, with 73% occurring during extreme weather. TERIC's battery systems provide fast-acting reserves that can respond within seconds to prevent blackouts during these critical periods. The Pioneer Power Centre project, currently in development, will provide "peaking power to the local distribution system during periods of high demand, grid instability, or renewable power intermittency".tericpower+1

5. Ancillary Services Revenue

TERIC-developed facilities participate in AESO's ancillary services markets, providing operating reserves, regulating reserves, and other grid reliability services. These markets compensate storage operators for standing ready to respond to grid emergencies, reducing the need for expensive spinning reserves from thermal generators.producer+1

Quantified Consumer Impact

TERIC claims to have conceptualized and developed over 120 MW of battery energy storage capacity in Alberta, with approximately 80 MW currently operational. The majority of all utility-scale battery projects in operation in Alberta today were originated and developed by TERIC.tericpower+1

The eReserve fleet alone comprises 60+ MW of Tesla Megapack batteries providing:

  • Energy balancing services

  • System voltage and capacity support

  • Grid frequency regulation

  • Renewable generation smoothingenfinite

The Emissions Reduction Alberta grants totalling $11.7 million for TERIC projects demonstrate government recognition of their consumer benefit potential—specifically citing "cost effective power for Albertans" and "reduced GHG emissions" as project objectives.eralberta+2

Current Operational Status Note

The Dispatcho page shows many eReserve assets displaying "0 MW" output at the time of capture. This is normal for battery storage systems, which cycle between charging (drawing power) and discharging (providing power) depending on grid conditions and market prices. A 0 MW reading indicates the battery is either idle, fully charged, or actively charging—not that it is non-operational.dispatcho
