Football game at Caroline School

Pileup at the game between the Caroline Cougars and the Sedgewick Rams.

CAROLINE FOOTBALL WINS HOME OPENER
The newly constructed football field behind Caroline School was the venue for the first home game of the season for the Caroline Cougars on September 17. Cougars coach Jim Bystrom described the game as follows:
“The Caroline HS Football program brought it all together in their home opener Friday night against Sedgewick. Great defense, good offense, and solid special teams led to a 47 - 7 VICTORY. Notable player contributions include Dylan Kurney who had 7 carries for 148 run yards and 3 TD's, including a 82 yard kick-off return for a TD and another 90 yard TD run. Leonard McTaggart ran 7 times for 92 yards with 1 TD, rookie Cole Peters pounded up the middle with 2 rushing TD's, and Cole Cummins caught another for a TD. Defensively the boys stood solid with 7 tackles by Dustin Black, 6 tackles by Brett Godwin and rookie James Gallant. Also 4 tackles and 2 interceptions by rookie Tyler Styner who like all the rookies played in only his 2 game! What makes this game so exciting was how the boys came together after the loss in Edmonton 2 weeks ago. Also exciting was the opportunity to play on our new field which in spite of the wet conditions stood-up to the pounding. With two thirds of the roster made up of rookies we are very excited to see what these boys, your Caroline boys, are going to accomplish this year and years to come. Our next home game is September 30th against Breton at 4 pm.”

The annual Community BBQ, hosted by Caroline School, was held at the half time mark in the game, where hamburgers and home made salads, along with cakes and other goodies, were enjoyed by a sizable crowd watching the game. Kudos to the School Council for catering this event.
