The name Wabamun originates from the Cree word for "mirror," ᐋᐧᐸᒧᐣ (wâpamon), which is a reference to the clear, reflective quality of the lake's water[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. This Cree name was given because the lake's surface often appeared mirror-like.
Additionally, the Stoney (Nakota Sioux) people have their own name for the lake: Wihnemne[1][5].
There is some less accurate information suggesting "Wabamun" means "lake" in Cree, but the most consistently supported origin across reputable sources is that it means "mirror"[1][2][3][4][5][8][6][7].
